Ards footballer injured in city centre assault

The Ards FC mid fielder was making his way home when he was attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A post on Ards Football Club Facebook page says: “We are deeply sorry to report that midfielder Gary Warwick was the victim of a vicious assault in Belfast in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Hide AdGary suffered a fractured skull in the attack, which occurred in the Patterson’s Place area as he was making his way home.

Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to Gary and hopes for a full recovery.
Manager Niall Currie remarked: “We are all sickened to be honest. I would just like to say to this quality young man that all of us at Ards Football Club are thinking about him and I know I’ll be carrying the best wishes of all Ards supporters with me, when I visit him later today.”
While the matter is being investigated by police, the club would urge anyone who might have information to contact them on 101.”
